NFL Week 7 Takeaways and Scores

Updated: May 16, 2024

Week 7 of the NFL season provided plenty of excitement, with nail-biting finishes, unexpected upsets, and standout performances. As teams jockey for position in the standings, every game is becoming increasingly crucial. From underdogs making bold statements to star players showcasing their skills, this week was a pivotal point in the season. Join us as we break down the key takeaways from Week 7, highlighting the moments and trends that could shape the remainder of the NFL season.

Chicago Bears

· The Cincinnati Bengals are the best team in the AFC North right now.

The Bengals made a huge statement with a dominate 41-17 victory on the road against the Baltimore Ravens. Joe Burrow was 23/38 with 416 passing yards and 3 TD’s. Burrow’s top target Ja’Marr Chase caught 8 receptions for 201 yards and 1 TD, including an 82 yard passing TD. What impressed me the most in this game was the Bengals defense. The WhoDey defense sacked Lamar Jackson 5 times this week (most in Lamar’s career) and held one of the better offenses in the league to 17 points at home. I expect the Bengals to steamroll the hapless Jets this Sunday and improve to 6-2.

· The Kansas City Chiefs are NOT fine.

Heading into Week 7, most people (including me) expected the Chiefs to get back on track against a good Titans team. That was not even close to being the case. Sunday, Kansas City scored the least amount of points in a game in the Mahomes era so far. A 27-3 thumping was quite the surprise. Patrick Mahomes has thrown an interception in 6 straight games, 9 total this season. Kansas City has consistently shown the defense is not Super Bowl-caliber, the offense has no rhythm, and neither sides of the ball have shown any improvement. Chiefs fans should be worried. Have defenses figured Patrick Mahomes out?

· The MVP race begins to heat up.

The top 2 frontrunners for NFL MVP right now are Arizona’s Kyler Murray and Tampa Bay’s Tom Brady. Kyler Murray has completed a league-leading 73.5% of his passes and thrown for 2,002 yards with 17 TD’s and 5 INT’s. Murray has been consistent week in and week out, making big plays, extending plays, and leading the Cards to 7-0. At age 44, Tom Brady leads the NFL in passing yards (2,275) and passing TD’s (21) while throwing only 3 INT’s. Brady’s Bucs are 6-1 and a big favorite to repeat as Champs.
